Thinking of buying a B & B, guest house, or hotel? Any idea what is actually involved in the day to day running of any of the above? Would you like some hands-on experience before buying, or even if you have already bought but not yet started running your own place; then look no further as we are here to help.
Michael and I bought The Westbrook 5 years ago, and have literally learnt as we have gone along. Neither of us had any previous experience of the trade, and would have welcomed some early training ourselves.
So this is what we are offering to you. Between November and the end of April (excluding Bank Holidays) you can come and run The Westbrook for a weekend. The training will begin on Friday when we will go through all the paper side of things with you, ie: research, finance, legal, grading systems, marketing, etc. Late afternoon you will check in the guests, prepare and serve breakfast Saturday morning, take dinner orders, do the daily service of rooms, cook and serve dinner Saturday evening, prepare and serve Sunday breakfast, check out your guests, ready the rooms for the next guests, and leave us at lunchtime. You may take bookings over the phone, or check-in guests on the door, or deal with general phone enquiries.
To qualify for this free training, you will need to arrange for 2 couples to come as your guests, who will pay for bed and breakfast for Friday and Saturday night, plus dinner on Saturday. You will pay for your own room, but dinner will be included on Saturday night after you have served your guests. The course would start at 10am on Friday and end at 1pm on Sunday.
